Chris is a Partner in the Asset Management team.

He works with investors, housebuilders, strategic land professionals, property traders and property occupiers providing advice on the buying, selling and conveyancing of commercial land and buildings.  This includes working with promoters to assemble development sites and negotiate options or promotion agreements with landowners, as well as structuring joint venture deals and advising clients on a profitable exit.

In addition, he provides support on the grant and surrender of leases, the renegotiation and regearing of leases as part of an asset management strategy and financing.  Chris also acts for banks and other lenders on the other side of commercial real estate transactions and in regard to secured lending.

Recent examples of how Chris has supported clients include:

  • advising a strategic land promoter on the development and disposal of land for almost 100 new homes, including exchanging contracts for purchase, obtaining planning consent and structuring the deal to ensure an easy exit;
  • helping a global consumer electronics company to secure new office headquarters in the City of London, including dealing with a decision by the local fire authority prohibiting the grant of any further leases and substantially redrafting the leases in a tight time frame to achieve exchange of the agreement for lease on Christmas Eve;
  • varying the existing lease for a landlord with a brewery tenant at the outset of the COVID-19 lockdown period, by relaxing terms in exchange for a longer lease thereby increasing the asset value despite the difficult situation; and .
  • acquiring a commercial unit on an industrial estate in North Kent, where our client already owned three units, despite the seller not being very engaged in the process and their solicitor not being very experienced in this kind of work.
