Ed is a Senior Associate in the Employment team.

Specialising in recruitment and the drafting of contracts of employment and directors’ service agreements, restructuring and redundancy exercises and the negotiation of exit arrangements and severance packages.  He advises on the avoidance, mitigation and resolution of employment disputes, including claims of unfair dismissal, unlawful discrimination, whistleblowing, non-compliance with TUPE regulations, breach of contract and the reasonableness and enforceability of restrictive covenants and confidentiality agreements.

Experienced in the management and resolution of disputes includes the handling of claims, internal grievances and disciplinary proceedings in-house. Ed also provides training on employment law matters to senior managers, HR and ER teams in businesses operating in a range of sectors, including transport and aviation, financial services, food and hospitality, manufacturing, retail, entertainment and gambling, including William Hill.

Clients include employers varying in size from small owner-managed limited companies to large international plcs as well as senior ranking, high profile executives.

Recent examples of how Ed has supported clients include:

  • successfully defending a large public sector client and three senior managers over numerous allegations of sexual harassment and victimisation;
  • disciplining and exiting the general manager of an employer who needed to avoid the risk of several valued members of staff resigning over his leadership style;
  • settling a dispute for a public sector client in circumstances where Treasury Rules prevented payment of financial compensation, therefore requiring a non-financial package tempting enough to persuade the aggrieved employee to drop their claim; and
  • acting as an in-house legal advisor for Barclays Bank to support its human resources and employee relations teams.
