Kate is a Senior Associate in the Asset Management and Development teams.

Working on commercial development projects, she provides advice on development funding, and has experience of working on forward funded schemes and on development projects being delivered through joint venture.

In addition, she advises on promotion agreements, options and conditional contracts, overage arrangements and site assembly.

She has advised on build-to-rent developments and on projects involving the construction of student accommodation, hotel and leisure facilities, industrial units and mixed use properties.

She supports private sector developers, providers of registered social housing, landowners, commercial property promoters and joint venture vehicles, including two that involve Network Rail and the Canal & River Trust. Her clients include bloc Developments, Blockwork LLP, H20 Urban (No 2) LLP, Bridgecore Developments Limited and Your Housing.

Recent examples of how Kate has helped clients include:

  • navigating the client through complex rights to light issues and a railway asset protection agreement, on behalf of Blockwork LLP, to support them in the development of Nottingham’s first large scale build-to-rent scheme in a forward funded project with Grainger plc worth £55.6 million on Network Rail land adjoining Nottingham Railway Station;
  • keeping the Legal & General forward funded development of new student accommodation in Lincoln on track following the collapse into administration of the main contractor and their parent company by supporting the client to engage another contractor on site, retain the funding stream and enforce a performance bond issued in respect of the collapsed contractor’s;
  • negotiating a promotion agreement on behalf of the owner of a 465 acre site running alongside the A1 and working with the nominated developer to split the site into deliverable tranches to enable planning permission for industrial and/or warehousing and logistics to be secured; and
  • providing specialist advice on the development of a high value residential scheme at Bulbourne, Hertfordshire on land owned by the Canal & River Trust which involved the conversion of several listed buildings and the construction of a new office building across a strategically important site dissected by multiple waterways.
