Stella is an Associate in the Tax & Trusts and Wills & Estates team.

She supports on the creation of lasting powers of attorney, the management of financial affairs, the investment of funds to provide long term security, the creation and management of trusts (including personal injury trusts), the drafting of wills, lifetime tax planning strategies and eligibility for help with care costs through local authority funding, NHS Continuing Healthcare and state benefits.

Her work includes providing advice to vulnerable clients and their families and wider support network. She is a specialist in Court of Protection matters, including applications for the appointment of a deputy, permission to create a statutory will and orders for the carrying out of specific actions.

Stella supports elderly clients and for adults and children with an acquired brain injury or complex disabilities. In addition, she acts for attorneys, deputies and trustees, the Thalidomide Trust and West Sussex County Council, East Sussex County Council and Brighton and Hove Council.

Recent examples of how Stella has supported clients include:

  • enabling an elderly lady in West Sussex to move out of a residential facility and back into her own home by securing funding from the local authority to help with her care costs and by obtaining permission from the Court of Protection to take out an equity release plan to provide additional funds to meet the cost of any further support;
  • securing NHS Continuing Healthcare funding and a sizeable grant from the Thalidomide Trust on behalf of well-known thalidomide survivor, Lorraine Mercer MBE, for whom we act as an attorney and also helping her to find and adapt a bungalow suited to her needs as she grows older; and
  • providing ongoing support to a young lady who is under the care of the Court of Protection as a result of a brain injury sustained in a RTA when she was 17, which includes helping her to budget to meet her day to day living costs, managing the investment of her personal injury compensation award, arranging for her to receive 24 hour care and finding her a new home to live and adapting it to meet her needs.
