Mike is a Senior Associate in the Housing & Regeneration team.

With extensive experience in the housing sector, Mike works exclusively for registered providers of social housing.  He supports clients with a range of issues including anti-social behaviour injunctions, tenancy injunctions, disrepair claims, fraudulent applications for housing, possession and issues around succession.

Where counterclaims are bought by tenants, he steps in to support the registered provider achieve the most efficient outcome. He also represents housing associations at interim hearings in Court and ensures Counsel is fully prepared and briefed ahead of litigation.

In addition, he supports clients providing advice on the application of the law in the context of housing management issues.

Having spent time involved in areas such as homelessness reviews and appeals, defending tenants in housing possessions including counterclaims related to disrepair and tenancy deposits, Mike brings a unique perspective when providing support.

Clients include registered providers and local authorities.

Recent examples of how Mike has supported clients include:

  • assisting a registered housing provider to obtain possession against tenants who had abandoned their property, and immediately thereafter successfully obtaining an order for possession against trespassers who had in the meantime taken occupation;
  • supporting a registered housing provider at Director level in relation to a difficult complaint concerning failed procedure and threatened claims related to disability and human rights; and
  • negotiating settlement of a legitimate disrepair claim with a greatly reduced outcome in terms of amount of damages and costs.
