Sean is a Partner in the Agriculture and Landed Estates teams. 

He specialises in the acquisition and sale of development sites, conditional contracts, options, promotion agreements, development and overage or clawback agreements, the sale and purchase of farms and agricultural land, agricultural tenancies, financing agricultural land and assets and renewable energy schemes. 

His clients include landed estates, agricultural families, private business owners, developers, trusts and charities. 

Recent examples of how Sean has supported clients include: 

  • assisting a client in the sale of a farm in multiple lots subject to overage arrangements and ensuring all necessary rights were reserved to ensure ongoing use and possible development of retained land; 
  • Completing the sale of a farm as part of a complex divorce settlement ensuring the transaction was structured in the most tax efficient method;
  • advising a client on the development of a large plot of agricultural land from completion of a Promotion Agreement and all necessary planning documents through to the sale  to different developers over 3 phases;
  • Dealing with a complex split of land as part of a partnership dissolution which involved very complex drafting of rights, reservations and covenants, the regranting of finance and advising upon Stamp Duty Land Tax implications;
  • Preventing a client from having to pay interest and penalty payments by completing the refinancing of a 200 acre unregistered farm within a very tight timescale imposed by the clients existing lender.
