In response to the UK Government’s Good Work Plan, from 6 April 2020, the legislation surrounding the key information that must be contained in employment contracts was tightened. At the time, the focus was on COVID-19 related issues. We are now taking the opportunity to highlight the practical implications of the changes.
The aim of tightening this area of employment law is to ensure that both employers and workers (those who do not run their own business, but who are contracted to do work personally for an employer) now have greater clarity on the employment relationship.
Given the risks to employers who fail to meet the new requirements, it is important that a thorough review of any template employment contracts or agreements is completed to ensure these are brought up to date.
