On 27 March 2020, following a decision of  the Master of the Rolls with the Lord Chancellor’s agreement, all housing possession proceedings were suspended for 90 days.

The initial Guidance from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government provided that neither cases currently in the court system or any about to go in to it can progress to the stage where someone could be evicted.

The suspension was not included in the Coronavirus Act 2020 and instead appeared to be made by way of a direction to the courts.

Subsequent to the Guidance being issued, the new Practice Direction has been circulated.
