Bio

Matthew is a Planning & Environment Senior Associate.

A Chartered Town Planner (Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute), Matthew specialises in advising on national planning policy and local authority planning processes.

He works with strategic land promoters, developers and private individuals to identify opportunities across sectors and unlock asset value. He also advises on planning matters including site appraisals, the assembly of planning applications, preparation of planning appeals, and management of the planning application process.

If an application goes to a planning appeal, Matthew prepares statements of case, proofs of evidence and statements of common ground, and gives evidence at appeal hearings and public inquiries.

His expertise also includes representations in response to local development plans and neighbourhood plans, alongside advice on site promotion strategies.

Examples Matthew’s work include:

  • Securing outline permission for 70 dwellings in Warwickshire at appeal for a Cheshire-based site promoter.
  • Providing planning consultancy support and assisting in securing planning permission for a new petrol filling station with attached convenience store creating around 30 full time jobs in Staffordshire.
  • Securing planning for an on-site bar at a bottling and kegging plant in Lancashire, despite planning policy restrictions.
  • Securing full planning permission for a housing association client on a scheme of affordable housing and housing for older people on a site in Cheshire which included a disused sports pitch.
  • Advising a group of local residents in respect of a planning enforcement case.
