Bio
Richard is a Disputes Partner.
Richard advises and supports businesses, individuals and lenders in relation to a wide range of contentious matters.
Wherever possible, Richard seeks to avoid litigation through effective negotiation, strategic advice and the use of Alternative Dispute Resolution methods, including mediation and settlement discussions. However, where Court proceedings are unavoidable, Richard provides guidance and representation throughout the litigation process.
Richard also has experience in handling complex and high-value disputes across several specialist areas. He acts in professional negligence claims involving accountants, solicitors and surveyors, pursuing or defending claims where professional advice or services have fallen below the required standard and caused financial loss.
Richard is also experienced in high-value debt recovery matters, assisting businesses and lenders in recovering substantial outstanding sums through both negotiated settlements and formal court action where necessary.
His expertise extends to obtaining and defending civil injunctions and freezing orders, providing urgent legal remedies to protect assets, preserve the status quo and prevent further harm.
Richard also frequently advises on Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act (TOLATA) disputes.
Examples of Richard’s work include:
- Securing a freezing injunction in a TOLATA dispute to prevent the sale of property in which the client held a beneficial interest, together with an order compelling the disclosure of the defendant’s assets.
- Successfully acting for the trustees of an unincorporated institution in a complex High Court property and governance dispute.
- Acting for four defendants in a substantial claim relating to alleged pollution and contamination of agricultural land.
