Steve is a Construction Partner.
Steve works with property developers, building contractors, professional consultants, higher education institutions and registered providers throughout the build lifecycle.
He specialises in non-contentious construction matters, with particular expertise in construction contracts (including JCT, NEC and bespoke drafting), development and funding agreements, professional appointments and collateral warranties, and project advisory.
Examples of Steve’s work include:
- Ensuring the appointment of more than 10 consultants on a complex, high-value project, including drafting and negotiating appointments and the building contract.
- Working on the sale of shares in a client’s company (worth circa £850 million).
- Drafting and negotiating a building contract and parent company guarantee for fit-out and refurbishment works at a life science building.
- Drafting and negotiating the building contracts, professional appointments, and novations for a £15 million+ refurbishment and extension of a commercial building in a well-known location in Birmingham.
- Identifying key risks in building contracts for a number of leading brand contractors to tight deadlines, and amending standard forms to reflect bespoke contract issues.
- Advising on design risk responsibility for a fit-out contractor when negotiating the building contract for a phased room-by-room refurbishment of a well-known Mayfair hotel.
- Advising on the due diligence process as part of a client’s acquisition of the shares in a construction company, including reviewing the construction contracts entered into by the target company.
