Bio

James is a Planning & Environment Partner.

James is a chartered member of the Royal Town Planning Institute, and has more than 20 years of experience in leading high profile planning applications, securing planning permission for various large-scale housing, commercial, and purpose-built student accommodation schemes.

Once planning permission is granted, he is frequently retained to oversee and manage the discharge of conditions process alongside discussions and, where appropriate, negotiations in terms of affordable housing and planning obligations.

In terms of planning due diligence work, James has experience in advising a number of high-net-worth individuals in connection with the purchase of land and properties – particularly in relation to the discharge of planning conditions, lawful implementation of a planning permission, and potential risks associated with enforcement action.

Examples of James’ work include:

  • Reviewing planning history and undertaking comprehensive planning due diligence in relation to the purchase of an individual apartment forming part of the flagship Gasholders London regeneration project in Kings Cross.
  • Undertaking comprehensive planning due diligence to ensure that the necessary planning permissions were in place and advising on any potential enforcement-related risks, ahead of the purchase of a luxury Hyde Park private residence.
  • Acting on behalf of a high-net-worth former Premier League footballer and carrying out planning due diligence in relation to the potential purchase of a high value detached property in an affluent Cheshire village.
  • Providing a variety of chartered town planning services to an East Midlands based landed estate including carrying out due diligence on existing assets, land promotion, and co-ordination of planning applications.
  • Providing ongoing chartered town planning advice to support the expansion and refurbishment of a Grade II-listed hotel including securing planning permission and listed building consent for works associated with the delivery of a new swimming pool and spa facilities.
