Catherine is an Insurance Litigation Senior Associate.
Catherine acts for businesses and their insurers facing employers’ liability, public liability, and road traffic accident claims, including serious injury and complex matters.
Alongside acting for clients with captive and traditional insurance arrangements, she also advises on general litigation claims which fall outside of the scope of clients’ insurance arrangements, including breach of contract and discrimination matters.
Catherine works with a diverse client base including large PLC clients with multiple sites, extensive workforces, and substantial fleet operations across a range of sectors, including waste management, hospitality and manufacturing.
Examples of Catherine’s work include:
- Negotiating the out-of-court settlement of a road traffic accident claim on behalf of a waste management company, reducing the payout to £30,000 from the £500,000 originally sought.
- Securing an indemnity from the supplier of defective equipment used by a company facing a £200,000 personal injury claim from an employee who was injured in an accident at work while using the equipment.
- Persuading an individual to withdraw a claim for personal injury compensation where liability had initially been admitted by producing evidence which suggested fundamental dishonesty in the claim.
