Andrew is an Employment Partner.
Andrew is experienced in all forms of generalist employment law support and assistance to businesses and institutions in the education sector.
He is regularly involved in assisting with complex internal dispute resolution, and providing advice relating to disciplinary investigations and subsequent hearings.
Working with clients in such a highly-unionised sector as the education sector, Andrew has developed a specialism in handling complex industrial relations issues. He has assisted clients with pay negotiations with trade union representatives, dealt with collective grievances, assisted with the negotiation of trade union recognition agreements, and defended claims brought by trade unions against clients (including claims for unlawful inducement, and claims brought by employees for protective awards).
Examples of Andrew’s work include:
- Advising a nationwide university education provider on a complex restructure and redundancy exercise involving in excess of 100 employees.
- Advising an international environmental services provider in handling an employment tribunal claim brought by a challenging former employee, whose case seems to be entirely generated and conducted through the use of AI
- Advising an international packaging organisation in relation to a collective grievance being brought by a large number of unionised employees, and concurrently assisting the same employer with the defence of a claim for unlawful inducement.
- Advising schools and trusts on their safeguarding obligations in relation to the children and or vulnerable adults in their care (including advising a school on the removal of an employee who had worked in a different jurisdiction, and for whom the school was unable to obtain necessary safer recruitment information).
- Advising a multi-academy trust in relation to the removal of a teacher who had crossed ethical and professional boundaries in their relationship with students.
