Charlie advises clients on a range of regulatory matters, defending organisations and individuals subject to investigation by regulators from inception through to prosecution and trial, with particular expertise interviewing and preparing statements from witnesses, written submissions under caution, defence case statements and mitigation statements.
He works on behalf of clients across a range of sectors including the environment, healthcare, technology and finance, as well as providing advice to businesses such as nursing homes and care homes who are regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), and providing specialist advice on regulatory matters in corporate and property transactions.
Examples of Charlie’s work include:
- Liaising with the Environmental Agency to secure a regulatory position statement to approve a new service line a client was seeking to implement, to ensure users of such services would be outside the remit of the requirement to obtain an operating permit.
- Acting as the main point of contact for a multi-national organisation for regulatory queries on a broad range of matters across all service lines, including defective products, advertising standards and trade requirements.
- Attending client premises to re-interview witnesses and prepare the clients defence case statement following an investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) into an injury to a worker when operating machinery. The matter proceeded to trail where the client was found not guilty.
- Advising a multi-jurisdictional lender on the implementation of a new financial product, including providing an advice note on how this could be implemented across a group-structure, while liaising with the relevant regulator to answer queries and ensure client comfort upon implementation.
