Cory Doran

Solicitor

Bio

Cory is an Employment Solicitor.

Cory advises employers, directors, partners and individuals on complex employment, worker status, employment tax and business protection matters – often where employment rights, commercial objectives, tax treatment and corporate structures overlap.

His work spans day-to-day HR advisory support, strategic workforce planning, contractual drafting, settlement negotiations, IR35 and off-payroll working compliance, agency labour arrangements, worker and employment status issues, discrimination, partnership disputes and senior exits.

Cory often supports clients who require more than employment law advice, such as where decisions about staffing models and contractual structures carry commercial, employment tax, or reputational implications. This includes advising on changes in engagement structures from casual arrangements to worker or employee status, the implications of developments arising from the Employment Rights Act 2025, and the employment tax consequences of different contractual models.

He also provides training to clients across a range of issues, helping legal, HR and operational teams understand how employment status, control, working practices and tax risk interact.

Examples of Cory’s work include:

  • Advising a large sports organisation on IR35 and off-payroll working issues, including employment taxes, employment rights and assessing the practical and tax consequences of different engagement models.
  • Advising a large, online-only distributor on a new agency contract for the provision of approximately 200,000 hours of casual labour.
  • Acting for senior individuals and directors on exits from PLCs, including securing improved exit packages.
  • Advising a GP partner on the effect of discriminatory behaviour experienced following ill health, including the application of Sections 44, 26 and 27 of the Equality Act 2010, the terms of a deed of retirement, and the negotiation of a substantially improved exit package.
  • Supporting a hotel group with day-to-day HR advice on grievance and appeal processes including tactics, procedure, and employee rights to trade union representation.
  • Advising individuals and corporate clients on settlement agreements, including drafting, post-termination obligations and employment taxes.
