Demelza is a Family Partner.
Demelza advises on all aspects of relationship breakdown including divorce, cohabitation, and civil partnerships.
She also deals with financial matters arising from separation and the arrangements for children. Demelza has particular expertise in more complex child arrangements applications, including those involving issues of domestic abuse and with children with additional needs. She advises on pre- and post-nuptial agreements, cohabitation agreements and separation agreements, alongside the planning aspects of relationships.
Demelza provides practical advice and encourages people to consider non-court dispute resolution where appropriate. She is also able to draw on the expertise of external professionals where appropriate including accountants, mortgage and financial advisers and divorce coaches.
Examples of Demelza’s work include:
- Advising on complex Children Act cases, including a case where a client had been a sperm donor under a private arrangement and later sought to maintain contact with the child. The case was finally successfully resolved at the Court of Appeal.
- Representing high-net-worth and high-profile clients in issues arising from the breakdown of relationships.
- Representing a client seeking to rebuild a relationship with children following false allegations of domestic abuse.
