Bio

Saleema is a Disputes Partner.

Saleema has more than 30 years of experience in supporting air operators, manufacturers, MROs, maintenance organisations, lessors, the business aviation community, high net worth individuals (and their insurers) across a wide spectrum of litigation and arbitration. This includes major losses and complex contractual and leasing claims, large scale manufacturing disputes, repossessions and fraud both in the UK and around the world. Her work is also advisory, helping the industry navigate every-changing geopolitical risk.

Saleema has extensive experience advising on sanctions issues, particularly where they intersect with complex commercial transactions, cross-border disputes and international trade. She advises businesses on the application of sanctions regimes, including the ability to trade in or withdraw from higher-risk jurisdictions, sanctions due diligence in the context of transactions and disputes, the availability of licences and regulatory exemptions, the lawfulness of payments and contractual performance, enforcement risk and the implication of sanctions for litigation and arbitration strategy.

Examples of Saleema’s work include:

  • Advising aircraft lessors in connection with the recovery of aircraft and insurance issues arising from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
  • Advising the aviation insurance market on major losses and complex liability issues arising from aviation incidents in Europe, Africa, Asia, USA and South America.
  • Acting in a multi-jurisdictional arbitration before the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce involving UK sanctions, cross-border payment restrictions and complex issues of public policy.
