WPS has acquired facilities management provider Calibre Building Services Limited in a deal that will unlock greater self-delivery capability and fuel future growth.

Headquartered in Redhill, Surrey, and founded in 2011, Calibre Building Services Limited is a trusted facilities management partner to building managers across London, the South East and the Midlands and has established itself as a renowned provider of mechanical, electrical and public health services.

Co-owned by Directors Steve Welch and Matt Mabey, Calibre has joined forces with WPS, a strategic partner for whole-property solutions and provider of repairs and maintenance, plus heating, compliance and facilities management.

WPS is owned by the Wates Family, a household name in construction and property with a 129-year legacy of building, developing and maintaining homes and workplaces and a 3,000-strong property services team.

Calibre brings a wealth of commercial building management expertise and a team of almost 200 to Wates, and will continue to focus on supporting local sites, while benefiting from the wider support of the Wates business – providing a sustainable platform for the business going forward.

A specialist, multi-disciplinary team at Knights advised the shareholders of Calibre Building Services on the sale to WPS. The team was led by Corporate Partner, Jon Start, supported by Daniel Bolderston and Ashley Simpson in Corporate, Julian Moran in Tax, Katie Sharman in Employment, Robert Pettigrew in Real Estate and Tom Cleary in Regulatory.

Director at Calibre Building Services, Steve Welch, said: “The sale to WPS represents a really exciting next chapter for us at Calibre and we’re looking forward to seeing what the future holds.

“Matt and I are incredibly proud of how far we’ve come as a business over the last 15 years and we’re confident that joining the team at Wates will allow us to continue to provide the very best facilities management services to building managers across the UK.

“I’d like to thank Jon and the team at Knights for their hard work and collaborative approach throughout the transaction. They diligently guided us through each stage of the sale process and were critical to a successful outcome.”

Jon Start, Corporate Partner at Knights, said: “It was a pleasure to have supported Steve and Matt on this transaction, which signals the beginning of an exciting new chapter for them, their business and their excellent team of professionals.

“I’ve no doubt that together with the team at Wates, the services that Calibre offer will continue to go from strength to strength. It’s clear that both businesses are aligned on their core values which include meticulous delivery and building long-standing relationships.

“All of us at Knights send our best wishes for the future to both businesses as they embark on this new venture together.”
