Staffordshire County Council is preparing to submit a planning application to Lichfield District Council for a new health centre on behalf of Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care Board, a care home and sports pitches on land off Milestone Way, Burntwood.
Local health care services are currently provided from Salters Meadow Health Centre, a temporary facility on the Burntwood Leisure Centre site and the Darwin branch practice and the Darwin branch practice in Chasetown. These will be replaced with a new facility as a priority to improve local health care services.
The application site, at the land off Milestone Way, has been identified as the most appropriate location. We are keen to hear your views on the proposals.

The indicative proposals would bring about a number of significant public benefits and these include:
- A modern purpose-built health care facility with adequate parking in an accessible location (see image above).
- A substantial high quality residential care home.
- Improved sports pitch provision for public use.
- The creation of local jobs, both during construction and operational phases.
The site is around 3.1 ha in extent, and its boundary is shown below.
Located off Milestone Way, the site is around 250m southeast of Burntwood Town Shopping Centre at Cannock Road. Milestone Way lies to the north, there are residential properties to the east and west and the Burntwood Leisure Centre building and associated car parking, pitches and tennis courts is located to the south.
The main part of the site comprises a vacant playing field and is relatively flat. There is also an area of hardstanding to the south-east corner where former buildings have been demolished.
The development proposed is shown in the image below and comprises:
- Health Centre with associated parking space (red),
- Vehicular access from Milestone Way (yellow),
- Open space with sports pitches (green)
- Care Home (blue).

The detailed design work for the Health Centre is currently being undertaken as the top priority for this planning submission. It is proposed to be located in the north-eastern part of the site adjacent to Milestone Way arranged around a central courtyard, with a predominately two-storey building with comprehensive facilities including consulting rooms, treatment rooms and a large waiting area.
A Care Home is proposed to be located within the north western part of the site, which will be submitted via an outline planning application with details to be brought forward at the next stage. At this stage, the care home is anticipated to be a predominately two storey building of a scale similar to the health centre.
An 11 v 11 grass pitch (U13-adult), along with a 9 v 9 (U11-U12), and 7 v 7 (U9-U10) are proposed in the southern part of the site, providing local sports pitch provision.
