Ian is a Partner in the Employment Team.
Ian advises on a full range of both contentious and non-contentious employment matters.
Ian has a particular specialism in advising on director and shareholder disputes and corporate governance matters. This includes director and senior executive exits.
Ian also has substantive experience of advising on large scale collective redundancy consultations and TUPE matters.
Examples of how Ian has supported his clients include:-
- advising on complex TUPE issues following the client being awarded a lucrative public sector contract. The advice meant that significant employment tribunal litigation was avoided;
- advising a client and successfully defending claims for unfair dismissal and discrimination. This included associated regulatory issues and a third party investigation;
- advising a senior executive on settlement negotiations. This included advice on entitlements to bonus payments, share options, contractual benefits and renegotiating the client’s restrictive covenants;
- advising a client on the termination of employment and avoiding complex claims for disability discrimination and unfair dismissal; and
- advising a client in the exit of a minority shareholder, director, and employee. This involved addressing the relevant disciplinary procedures, corporate governance issues and ‘good’ and ‘bad’ leaver provisions in relation to the shareholding.
Ian has also had some reported employment cases in the Court of Appeal and Employment Appeal Tribunal.
