Darren is an Associate in the Plot Sales team.

Darren has been working in the legal sector for over 30 years, he started his legal career as a paralegal and then moved to an in-house legal department for a Construction Company. Specialising in residential property development, Darren has key experience delivering a range of schemes some of which exceed 1000 plots.

His expertise is in development set up and assisting with technical enquiries on planning, building regulations and development services; managing title problems and development plan issues; and ensuring our clients comply with their requirements in terms of the Consumer Code for Housebuilders , Help to Buy and CML requirements.

Working with some of the country’s largest house builders, schemes often have a mix of houses, apartments and a commercial aspect. He also acts for a number of smaller builders who we have an existing relationship with.

Having worked for ten years in an in-house legal department for a construction company, Darren brings first-hand experience of the industry and a knowledge of the commercial and technical requirements of our clients as well as the legal aspects. His long-standing relationships with clients gives him an historical knowledge of developments which makes him the “go to” person not only for our clients but also other Law Firms who may require assistance on future sales on the developments which he has dealt with.

Clients include a range of house builders including Barratt/David Wilson Homes, Home Group, Harron Homes, Avant, Keepmoat and CEG, he is the first point of contact for their senior management when a problem arises on their development or with a transaction.

Recent examples of how Darren has supported clients include:

  • training clients’ graduate staff who attend our offices every year as part of their scheme;
  • attending and speaking at clients sales conferences to advise sales staff on conveyancing procedure and various topics such as current CML requirements and ways in which they can assist the procedure; and
  • attending BDW Trading Limited’s annual National Legal Conference to discuss practices and procedures in the industry with a view to improving systems.
