Humphrey is a Consultant in the Commercial team.

He has specialised in aviation for over 40 years, primarily acting on the sale, purchase and leasing of airliners and executive jets, together with aircraft engines and parts. He also advises also on maintenance contracts and most aspects of aviation day to day life.

In additional to commercial matters, Humphrey has extensive experience in aviation litigation, including the seizure and release of leased aircraft and engines both in England and abroad. He has expertise in general commercial aviation disputes including mediation and arbitration hearings.

Humphrey has been a regular speaker at aviation conferences around the World, including the International Bar Association and the American Bar Association, on a wide variety of issues including leasing of aircraft and repossession, accident disaster litigation and terrorism.

Examples of how Humphrey has supported clients include:

  • Mediation following the return of leased aircraft from a European National Airline
  • Acting for a US carrier following a fatal accident in Gander, Newfoundland, including general supervisory advice prior to a full investigation by the Canadian Air Safety Board and appearing before it at some of its public hearings.
  • Participating in mediation proceedings in New Zealand following a fatal accident of an airliner which crashed into the sea of Invercargill.
