Gail is a Senior Associate in the Tax & Trusts and Wills & Estates teams.

She is also an Associate Member of Ilex having completed her CILEX Level 3. Gail supports clients in the in the preparation of wills, lasting powers of attorney, probate administrations and court of protection.  

She assists clients to plan for their future by putting their affairs in order thereby giving peace of mind.  She is particularly experienced in acting for elderly clients and, is a Dementia Champion, an initiative of the Alzheimer’s Society to promote awareness.  Gail has significant experience in advising when mental capacity may be an issue and she offers a supportive and holistic approach to clients and their families at what can often be a difficult time.

In addition, Gail is experienced in relation to all Court of Protection matters, including deputyship applications/annual management of deputyships, trustee applications, statutory wills and making gifts, etc.

Recent examples of how Gail has supported clients include:

  • assisting an administrator whereby an estate which consisted of a property was left to two siblings, one of which had lost mental capacity.  An application to the Court of Protection was required to appoint a new trustee in order that the estate property could be sold;
  • considering the capital gains tax element of an estate whereby during the administration of the estate a take over of a company had occurred and shares were to be sold.  During the takeover arranging to transfer shares to a beneficiary, whilst retaining some shares in the estate to qualify for a double capital gains tax allowance by beneficiary/estate;   
  • successfully working with social services to re-house a vulnerable child of a mentally incapacitated client whose property was required to fund her care and ensuring all relevant individuals had the appropriate support;
  • obtaining written medical evidence that an elderly client had the appropriate mental capacity to amend their will and understand the possible implications of doing so.
