Professional services business Knights has welcomed 23 new colleagues after completing the acquisition of a full-service law firm in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Founded in 2016, St James’ Square has clients across all areas of corporate and commercial law and has built a strong reputation across the North East.

The business has now been acquired by Knights – one the fastest-growing legal and professional services businesses in the UK.

Twenty-three professionals from St James’ Square join Knights today (Mon 19 June), joining a team of more than 1,400 professionals across Knights’ 25 offices nationwide.

Lisa Shacklock, Client Services Director at Knights, said:

“We’re really pleased to welcome our new colleagues to the team. Today’s news gives us a platform from which to pursue further expansion across the North East. There are exciting times ahead and we’re looking for more talent to join our team.”

The arrival of new colleagues complements Knights’ existing northern offices in Carlisle, Chester, Lancaster, Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield, Teesside and York – giving the Group a strong base to build a significant operation throughout the north of England.

St James’ Square is Knights’ 23rd acquisition, and its 21st since its IPO in 2018.

In that time, Knights has grown revenues from £35m to £125m and become the UK’s largest commercial legal services business outside London. The addition of Newcastle takes Knights to 26 locations across the UK.

Paul Monaghan, former Managing Partner at St James’ Square, now a Partner at Knights, said:

“We are excited to be joining Knights, whose reputation and reach will allow us to enhance our client service offering and ability to recruit from Newcastle’s deep pool of talent.”
