Andrew is a Partner in the Property Litigation team.

With over 30 years’ experience and particular specialism in property related disputes, he advises on issues arising from commercial property sale and purchase agreements, development agreements, conditional contracts and commercial leases.

He also has a wealth of experience of landlord and tenant disputes, including 1954 Act lease renewals, dilapidations claims, rent arrears and landlord`s remedies.

In addition, Andrew provides advice and acts in disputes relating to easements, enforceability and removal of covenants, trespass and nuisance.

As a qualified mediator, he manages disputes effectively and proportionately, and can assist his clients in resolving their matters by engaging in mediation and other forms of ADR.

Clients range from PLCs to small owner-managed businesses, private individuals and charities.  Including names such as Motorway Direct PLC, Harworth Group PLC, Coalfields Regeneration Trust/CRT Property Investments Limited, Sheffield Business Park Limited and Sheffield Town Trust.

Recent examples of how Andrew has supported clients include:

  • dealing with the defence of claims advanced against his clients by a purchaser of a portfolio of loans and security for a shortfall of in excess of £3.5m, based on arguments of estoppel and sale of properties at undervalue;
  • supporting a £10m claim for a developer against a City Council for repudiatory breach of a conditional contract for the sale of development land and successfully settling at mediation;
  • working for a landlord client in contested 1954 Act renewal proceedings seeking to redevelop premises against both a tenant and subtenant with implied periodic tenancies; and
  • acting for a landlord against a former tenant for a dilapidations claim concerning warehouse premises in excess of £400,000 and successfully settling during protocol process.
