Douglas is a Partner in the Asset Management team.

Supporting landowners, developers, occupiers, investment funds and a number of Oxford Colleges he provides input into all aspects of commercial property law and estate management for mixed-use and residential developments, as well as renewable energy projects. This includes advising investors and occupiers on promotion agreements, options, and sale or purchase contracts that incorporate bespoke conditional elements.

Recent examples of how Douglas has supported clients include:

  • enabling a developer to realise the full value of a complex site by preparing leasehold, freehold and residential sub-selling elements in order to buy and sell on the same day and minimise stamp duty liability;
  • ensuring a landowner benefited from a development site twice, first through its sale to a house builder and secondly by retaining access to neighbouring land suitable for subsequent development; and
  • assisting a landowner in a complex multi-party joint venture agreement to develop significant infrastructure for Bicester Ecotown.
