Emma is an Associate in the Private Client teams.

She specialises in drafting wills and lasting powers of attorney ensuring that individuals wishes are incorporated and any dependants provided for. This sometimes includes incorporating trusts including dealing with the administration, appointment of trustees and registration process. When undertaking work within these areas, she ensures that the tax position is considered and provides appropriate advice on mitigating any unintended tax consequences.

When dealing with probate, she guides her clients through the process providing clear advice and making it as simple as possible to minimise any unnecessary stress.

Clients include private individuals and business owners.

Examples of how Emma has supported clients include:

  • dealing with a substantial multi-jurisdictional intestate estate. This estate involved a minority interest, substantial farmland and a challenging family structure;
  • supporting a medium sized estate where the partners of the firm are executors and the beneficiaries are numerous charities. As there is no next of kin or immediate family, the work involved registering the death, arranging the funeral and liaising with third parties to value all assets in order to apply for the Grant of Probate;
  • dealing with an estate where there is a business interest and working closely with our corporate team as the executors wanted to transfer the share ownership and a memorandum would be required; and
  • providing advice to a client about the best way to structure his Will tailored to his circumstances following the death of his wife and considering his son’s disability.
