Fiona is a Senior Associate in the Tax & Trusts and Wills & Estates teams.

Fiona has over 20 years' experience as an accountant. She is a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Adviser. Working with UK and non-UK residents, she supports them on compliance with UK income tax and capital gains tax, including providing capital gains tax planning advice and ensuring compliance with UK reporting requirements for disposals of residential property.

Her role includes involvement in the preparation of annual accounts and tax returns for trusts and deceased estates, which provide Trustees and Executors up to date financial information and enables them to meet their compliance obligations.

She also advises on inheritance tax charges on relevant property trusts and can secure valuable relief for a fall in value post death.

Working alongside her legal colleagues, Fiona is able to provide add-on taxation advice in house which enables the team to offer a holistic and comprehensive service. Her strategic recommendations allow Knights to structure projects or transactions for clients in the most tax effective manner.

Her particular interests are holdover relief, taxation of property and claims under the Enterprise Investment Scheme.

Current clients include high net worth individuals and families, attorneys, executors of deceased estates, trustees and beneficiaries of trusts.

Recent examples of how Fiona has supported clients include:

  • ensuring a high net worth client avoided paying tax penalties by demonstrating a previous advisor’s errors;
  • successfully assisting a client to secure substantial repayments of income tax and capital gains tax by claiming relief under the Enterprise Investment Scheme together with capital gains tax deferral relief; and
  • providing capital gains tax planning advice to beneficiaries of a family trust to mitigate tax due on the sale of residential property.
