Jane is a Senior Associate in the Family team.

She has particular expertise in guiding couples through the divorce process, as well as dealing with financial settlements on relationship breakdown for married and unmarried couples. Jane regularly negotiates and formalises settlements, including for co-habiting couples, involving substantial or complex assets such as business interests, pensions, property, investment portfolios, trusts, and farming assets.

Jane also supports couples in pro-actively managing their future, working with them to draw up pre-nuptial, post-nuptial and cohabitation agreements for the protection of wealth against relationship breakdown, often concerning assets owned prior to marriage, business interests, personal injury settlements and inherited assets.

Her work extends to ensuring that children's interests are prioritised, helping families to reach agreement regarding arrangements for children on separation, advising both parents and grandparents.

Jane regularly advises and supports directors of companies and professionals where they have valuable assets. She takes a pragmatic approach to identify the preferred client outcome and focuses on achieving that in the most cost-effective way.

Recent examples of how Jane has supported clients include:

  • tracking financial contributions over two decades to successfully defend a claim to an interest in properties relating to a cohabiting couple in a multi-million pound dispute;
  • resolving issues relating to child arrangements on parents separation  resulting in us securing an order for costs and court order restricting any further application for a period of five years;
  • supporting a family with protecting their son’s interests in the family business and large property portfolio during divorce proceedings. By successfully demonstrating that the business and properties weren’t part of the matrimonial assets, they were protected from the divorce settlement; and
  • successfully resolving a complex claim of a co-habiting couple which spanned seven years. Protecting our client’s beneficial interest - awarded at 20% - in five farms, including through bankruptcy of the other party.
