Julie is a Partner in the Housing & Regeneration team.
She acts for registered providers of social housing in England and Wales and other corporate entities operating in the housing sector, including local authorities, charities and private companies.
Her expertise is in the acquisition and assembly of development sites, joint ventures and other partnering arrangements to deliver social housing projects, stock transfers and stock rationalisation, the large-scale review of asset holdings and asset sales, debt securitisation and with corporate governance and compliance.
She assists clients with funding arrangements, including NHS grants for clients who specialise in accommodation for persons with learning disabilities or under the ExtraCare Scheme and for those who support local authorities in providing accommodation for the homeless.
In addition, Julie provides advice on a range of commercial property matters, including the acquisition of office space and the disposal of vacant retail units included in social housing stock transfers.
Current clients include London and Quadrant, Forviva Group, Sovini Group, Ongo Homes and Liverpool Foundation Homes.
Recent examples of how Julie has supported clients include:
- reviewing repair obligations in respect of 1,600 flats in a number of high-rise buildings owned or managed by London and Quadrant to identify risks in light of the Grenfell Tower tragedy;
- acquiring a large area of land at Media City in Salford on behalf of ForHousing as part of a £53 million scheme to create 359 apartments for private rent, and negotiating a section 106 and development agreement with the adjacent landowner to create public access ways, shared facilities and areas of open space; and
- supporting Kirklees Council in the sale of a landmark building in the centre of Huddersfield and advising on a £10 million loan from the council to the developer to facilitate the conversion of the building into student accommodation.
